Steamboat Springs, CO is having an October for the record books. The ski resort has received 44″ of snow so far this month, making it the snowiest October on record! Stormy weather and cold temps have allowed the ski resort to fire up their snowguns and blow snow for their scheduled opening day of November 23rd.

This is the earliest Steamboat has ever made snow, and it’s not just for show. The resort plans to use nearly all of its 100 snowmaking guns on the mountain, focusing efforts on trails around the top of the Christie Peak Express.

“Snowmaking has started! Add in the most snow in October on record -44 inches and counting- and it all adds up to Opening Day on November 23. #SteamboatResort” – steamboatresort
