REI.com has just got up a blog post titled “The Coolest Ski Area You Haven’t Been To Yet”. Their pick? Arapahoe Basin, Colorado.
It’s a funny pick since Arapahoe Basin is far from a hidden gem. Last season, A-Basin was on the EPIC Pass and this season it is included on the Ikon Pass.
Furthermore, with A-basin being one of, if not the first, ski areas to open in Colorado each season as well as the last to close, people flock from all over to ski there.
In fact, I would go so far as to say MOST skiers in Colorado have skied A-basin.
OK, it’s not really a secret. You can basically spit on Denver from the top of Arapahoe Basin’s East Wall, and the mountain is typically one of the country’s first resorts to open, thanks to a lofty base elevation of 10,780 feet, which makes for good early-season snowmaking.
