Blair Aitken is a ski instructor and backcountry enthusiast who works to convert alpine skiers into ski tourers. This past ski season he set out to novices and teach them how to ski well enough to go on a basic backcountry ski tour in just two days.

An experiment to see if I could take four hillwalkers who had never tried snowsports before and teach them to ski well enough in two lessons that they could complete an easy ski tour in Scotland on the third day. I had 80 applicants and chose four people with different backgrounds and motivations. Hamish Frost’s film documents the three days and explains more about my motivations for attempting this.
The new format will run at Hillend ski centre on the 10th and 17th August. We will also be running an Introduction to Ski Touring course for people who can already ski in 17th August and 10th November.
