Gwyneth Paltrow has filed a countersuit against the man that accused her of hitting him while skiing at Deer Valley in 2016 allegedly causing serious injuries including a concussion and multiple broken ribs.
72 year old Terry Sanderson is seeking $3.1 million in compensation. Paltrow claims Sanderson has the story ass backward and has a pretty good case to back it up. This from her legal team:
“(Sanderson) admits he does not remember what happened. Ms. Paltrow remembers what happened very clearly. She was enjoying skiing with her family on vacation in Utah, when Plaintiff — who was uphill from Ms. Paltrow — plowed into her back. She sustained a full ‘body blow.’ Ms. Paltrow was angry with Plaintiff, and said so. Plaintiff apologized. She was shaken and upset, and quit skiing for the day even though it was still morning.”
The key thing is she claims Sanderson was uphill at the time of the collision and thus at fault. Desert News Utah reports Paltrow’s countersuit states that a Deer Valley Resort employee witnessed the incident and determined that Sanderson had “taken Paltrow out from behind.”
Gwyneth’s countersuit also includes an incident report from Deer Valley that backs up her claim that she was the victim. The incident report includes a quote from Sanderson as saying “That she appeared right in front of him” which further substantiates that he was the uphill skier.
Paltrow’s countersuit also noted that Sanderson’s vision could have played a factor in the incident:
“He had told his doctor about one year earlier that he was blind in his right eye, and that his vision in his left eye was decreasing,” that he “had experienced a prior skiing injury,” and “he had a history of blurriness of vision, and vision problems.”
Paltrow’s countersuit is in no way a money grab. She is suing for the token amount of $1 + legal fees:
“Because her injuries were relatively minor, she seeks only symbolic damages in the amount of $1, plus her costs and attorneys’ fees to defend this meritless claim.”
We will be sure to update this story as the news comes in.
