The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources recently dropped dozens of tiny trout from the sky in what is known as a “fishbomb”. The fish landed into a crystal blue mountain lake as part of the area’s “extreme fish stocking” efforts.
The fish are tiny — anywhere from 1–3 inches long — which allows more than 95% of them to survive the fall.
Fish-bombs first started in the 1950s when small airplanes would drop buckets full of fish into high alpine lakes.
Fun fact: We stock many of Utah's high-mountain lakes from the air. The fish are tiny — anywhere from 1–3 inches long — which allows more than 95% of them to survive the fall. #Utah #TroutTuesday pic.twitter.com/kotDe91Zzw
