27 inches in just 24 hours, thats how much rain fell in Kauai creating all types of chaos in the form of mudslides and floods, stranding tourists and locals alike in the deluge conditions.  Step in big wave pioneer Laird Hamilton and his aluminum boat.  CBS reports Laird lives nearby on the the Hanalei River and jumped at the opportunity to help:

“It’s hard to conceive that that much water could come from the sky. And I mean it was like an ocean back there. You know what, if I can get people out I’m going to get people out because no one else could. ” -Laird

His rescue total isn’t public knowledge at the moment but he also saved 15 girls from floodwaters which made for: “The best picture ever. No, we did not have a fun day on the boat. This is us getting rescued.”
