After news broke over the weekend that the operator of the iconic Swiss ski area was shutting down its lifts early despite having the best snow in years, ski bums near Crans Montana must be thinking, “somebody better get fired”
According to The Local, The reason for the early closure lies in an unresolved financial dispute between Philippe Magistretti and the Association of Commonues of Crans-Montana (ACCM). In 2017, the ACCM agreed to pay half of Crans-Montana’s shortfall, which is largely attributed to events and programs aimed at helping the local community. In its initial payment, ACCM paid Crans-Montana 800,000 CH. This year, the ACCM has allegedly lagged on paying its due.
The ACCM rebuked this claim, instead saying that Crans-Montana is holding the ski area for ransom in order to sway compensation negotiations they claim are ongoing. Magistretti has since penned an open letter to the community laying out his claims against ACCM.
