A father and daughter are dead after the pair were caught and buried in an avalanche near Val d’Isere, France reports The Metro.

The 44 year-old man and his 11 year-old from Paris were skiing in an off-piste area that had since been closed due to avalanche risk when the slide was triggered. The avalanche occurred at a high elevation, somewhere between 9,500-10,000′ in the Pisaillas Glacier zone. Other details including aspect and avalanche profile remain unavailable.

*Our deepest condolences go out to the victims’ friends and family
