3 people, including a professional mountain guide are dead following a destructive avalanche in the southern alps of France reports Le Dauphine.

The slide occurred at approximately 10am in the Parc national de la Vanoisenear near the French mountain village of Bonneval-sur-Arc. As of now, it’s unclear whether the trio was cross-country skiing or ski touring but it seems as though the avalanche struck the group during their ascent of the 9,985′ Col du Greffier.

The guide has since been identified as Simon Paris but the identities of his two clients remain undisclosed. The search has since been concluded and local authorities are warning backcountry enthusiasts that warming temperatures are creating instabilities within the snowpack that could prove fatal.
