The bodies of three mountaineers caught in an avalanche high in the French alps early on Tuesday have been recovered by rescue teams reports The Star Tribune.

The trio were climbing Mont Maudit in the Mont Blanc Massif when a section of ice broke off the mountain, sending snow and the three climbers approximately 500 feet. The three did not survive the event. The climbers have been identified thus far as a 32 year-old Slovakian, a 33 year-old Polish/British national, and a 50 year-old German who was serving as the group’s guide.

According to reports, rescue teams had to use chainsaws and a backhoe to locate all the bodies. All bodies were accounted for by Thursday morning.
