35C9199300000578-3666310-image-m-28_1467218715146Dinesh and Tarakeshwari Rathod claim to being the first couple to summit Everest but questions about their accomplishment have risen after another climber accused them of stealing his photos and photoshopping their faces onto his. Climber Satyarup Siddhanta posted this to his Facebook page alleging the theft:

“This is so so so amazing!!!!!!!! They took my pics and Photoshopped their image of summit… And got certificates too… Where is mountaineering going????? Shame on you officers from Pune!”

These are the photos in question:

The Rathods of Pune, INDIA also seem to have used an unaltered photo to support the claims of a successful summit but in this photo faces are covered with oxygen masks: everest fake summit 35C91D0D00000578-3666310-image-a-25_1467217350317

The photos used by the Rathods were uploaded to Makalu Adventure trekking company’s website. Software consultant Satyarup Siddhanta, 33, does not know if the couple actually made it to the top and just needed to bolster their photographic evidence or if their claims are entirely false but he did contact authorities about the matter and the Rathods are currently under police investigation.

Seasoned Everest veteran, Gavin Bate, who has had 6 succesful summits, calls their claim “inconceivable” due to further photographic evidence when he spoke to The Daily Mail. Gavin noticed that in another photo the couple published they appear on the face of Everest, on the icefall, wearing completely different jackets, boots and gloves:

“You’re too knackered, it’s too windy and it’s too cold. I’ve been up six times and it’s inconceivable that you’d take a second pair of summit boots and a second down jacket.”35C9197300000578-0-image-a-16_1467216428279

Dinesh and Tarakeshwari Rathod held a press conference to announce their successful ascent on June 5th and Kathmandu based Makalu Adventure climbing company stands by their claims saying that their sherpas helped them to the top and they both received climbing certificates from Nepalese authorities.

We will let the evidence speak for itself for the time being and update this story as it develops but I suggest the Rathods watch a certain episode of Seinfeld to better understand the consequences of reckless photoshopping: everest hoax everest hoax
