Last week, we reported that Killington was being considered for a FIS sponsored world cup event and now it’s official. The FIS has jumped on the opportunity to bring skiing’s biggest stage to Vermont on Nov. 26-27 of 2016 reports the VPR.
The women’s only event will take place on Killington’s Superstar Trail.
According to Killington spokesperson Michael Joseph, “F.I.S. had their meeting in Zurich, I believe, and we are on the calendar now.”
So far on the docket are the women’s giant slalom and slalom events, where many expect some of the world’s biggest ski stars will light up one of Vermont’s most popular ski hills.
Resort officials believe that Killington’s extensive snowmaking systems sealed the deal for FIS officials who were skeptical about having the first world cup event on the east coast since the Waterville, NH world cup race that took place back in 1991.
