The final day of the Freeskiing World Tour event at Moonlight Basin went down on this past Saturday and it was an impressive show. Preparation for the finals venue on Three Forks was made more interesting for the competitors by a very exposed 30 minute hike to the top. Locals and ski patrollers are used to this beast of a walk, but competitors from all over the US and Canada were a bit more flustered by its gnarliness.

The day went off smoothly with the weather getting really nice toward the middle of the day. Athletes took advantage of the smooth fast snow to show off their smooth fast skiing styles. There was some trickery thrown down on all parts of the venue including 360’s, backflips and front flips. Local MT boys and Canadians from Fernie, BC dominated the top 5 spots for the men with Bozeman’s Kyle Taylor winning the event and backflipper extraordinaire Randy Evans taking home the Backcountry.com TBL Sick Bird Buckle. Watch out for his younger brother Matt in a few years on the Tour. The Ladies skied hard as well with Snowbird transplant Nat Segal taking the top spot with some fine fine skiing indeed.

This event was a huge success and showcased a ton of new talent on the tour. Our host, Moonlight Basin, was incredible, and as a long time freeskier on the Tour I would like to thank them for their support and interest in the sport we love.
