Yeah yeah, merry elfing Christmas. I skied with family and freinds today and sure, it was “fun”. If you get out early enough you can make some fast turns on firmly packed freshly groomed snow… but I’m not gonna sugar coat it. The time for early season optimism is long gone. We’re in a drought.
This has been one of the driest Decembers on record for Tahoe and man made snow sucks, sorry people, it just does. Man made snow sucks antler fur. It always has.
They’ve got the Dogleg and Far East chair open, so if you do laps on Far East you can get a number of good high speed runs in during a short period of time, but that is what it is. We have not yet been graced by winter. Humbug!
I was casting a lonely shadow on the Resort side around noon today. Christmas day. It’s fun to have the run to yourself but Christmas day?
A few folks went sledding…
There is a new mini-snowmobile park at the base of Far East. This actually looks pretty fun.
We’re all ready for snow. Sleigh Rides at Squaw Creek is out keeping the horses in shape for winter… whenever it comes.
Nonetheless, people are still out making the best of it. Ice skating, skiing Red Dog and the Resort, it’s all a good time. When life gives you lemons, drink Hefenweissen. It’s too damn sunny for Seasonal Brews.
Pray for snow. And have a Merry Christmas. But stop talking to me about how much fun it is shredding the groomers with your friends. Burn some skis already, get pissed, we need snow.
Winter will come. It always does. But It’s time to start calling the weather out.
