April is officially powder month. I have been saying all year that we ski in December, January and February so that we are in shape for when the real season arrives in March and April. This April is not disappointing us in any way whatsoever. It seems like we have had six or seven storm days with a couple bluebird pow days in between. The sun has not even been doing a number on the snow yet. That could all change soon if the storms stop rolling in. As most ski resorts are getting ready to close or have already closed the resorts in LCC are still building base.

In addition to all the awesome snow Snowbird was also hosting the Junior Freeskiing Championships this weekend. Young male and female shredders from around the globe came to throw down their best stuff in the pow fields of Silver Fox and North Baldy. The juniors were amazing this year throwing down tricks and airs that I have never seen the adults try. Some of the stuff didn’t even seem possible. Stand out moves in my mind were Matt Evans jumping the entire Amphitheater (70-100ft), Andrew Binder completing a wild and crazy looking double, and Leo Aherns skiing a Sage-like run including 3 360s and a smooth turn into a massive single of the Wheeler Double. Charlie May made the most powerful looking turns I saw all weekend and the girls threw down also. One young lady, sorry I don’t know your name pulled 2 360s in her run! I can’t wait to see more of these kids in the future.
