The Run Around- Jackson Backcountry | Booters, Pow, and Sleds

March 28th, 2012 by

There’s a lot to do around Jackson in the winter. Here at Unofficial Jackson, we sometimes get sucked into just shredding the resort (who can blame us?) It’s good to see that somebody is getting it done a little deeper in the backcountry. Check out the latest episode from The Run Around, shot by Colorado based Two-Plank Productions. Corey Felton, Taylor Felton, Austin Gibney, and Topher Plimpton shred a variety of locations around the Jackson backcountry. Be sure to watch to the end to see some solid sled hang time.

Tim Swartz’s “American Daydream” Edit | Some of the Rowdiest POV of the Year

We’ve tried to phase out the strictly POV edits here at Unofficial, but sometimes we just have to make an exception. Tim Swartz’s “American Daydream” edit is such a case. It starts off casual- pillows and pow in Jackson Hole. Then, things get crazy at the Moonlight Basin Freeskiing World Tour Qualifier.

His lines are nothing short of jaw dropping- high consequence, big, and exposed. Did I mention, on to hard pack. Go to 1:45 if you don’t believe me. Way to throw down Tim!

Photo Flashback: Remember When it was Winter…Last Week?

Maybe it’s cruel to post a bunch of pow shots given our current weather pattern. Or, maybe, it will encourage winter to come back for one last gasp. Either way, … Read More

Vintage Ski Collision | Skier vs Skier

March 22nd, 2012 by

It’s hard saying if this footage is actually that old, or the camera it was shot on is just really crappy. Either way, the skier on skier action is A+. Skier “A” in the green jacket is enjoying a leisurely training run in stubby gates when…BAM! KAPOW! BLAMO! Skier “B” in the red delivers the knock out blow. The guys look alright, but it seems like skier “”B” should be buying skier “A” a few beers, to say the least.

Deep Pow and Backflipping The Goods | Jackson

The season has come back once again for the folks in Jackson.  During an on and off season, Tim Swartz is always there to take advantage of the on times.  This is a little clip of a warm up run in some of Jackson’s amazing sidecountry. A nice run with untouched pow and a solid backflip is a great way to start the day.  This video is very enjoyable to watch except for the couple tracks that were crossed around second 38.  What a good way to ruin a run.

Another Avalanche Video: Snowmobiler Rides Through Slide Near Alpine Wyoming

From the avalanche video files (which are getting bigger and bigger), here’s another one. This time just outside of Alpine, Wyoming. It looks like the south facing slope had been baking, and the sledder found the trigger point. Glad this guy was able to brap out of it. With warming temps, be mindful of south aspects and be  careful out there!

The Late Steve Romeo Skiing the Grand Teton

March 13th, 2012 by

Steve Romeo and his ski partner Chris Onufer passed away in a large avalanche last week in the Grand Teton National Park near Jackson Hole, WY.  This is yet another big loss for the American ski community.

Steve ran a website called TetonAT.com and was an accomplished skier and ski mountaineer.

Have a look a Steve climbing and skiing the Grand Teton.  This video is a good way to get a glimpse of who Steve was, what he was up to, and what drove him to ski big peaks.

Unofficial would like to extend our condolences to Steve and Chris’ family and friends and to the entire ski community at large.
