Austrian alpine ski racer Julia Scheib suffered a brutal crash during the first run of the women’s giant slalom at the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Opening in Sölden, Austria, on Saturday. Fortunately the defending champion has confirmed that she is doing well after undergoing additional medical examinations.
According to a social media update following the crash, Scheib received initial medical examinations and gave the all-clear. She later confirmed that she had undergone further medical checks and that everything was fine.
“Not quite the start I had in mind.
First things first: I had some further medical checks yesterday, and luckily, everything is fine.
Of course, I would have hoped for a different outcome, but sometimes things just don’t go as planned.“ – Julia Scheib
Despite the disappointing result, Scheib took a moment to congratulate the podium finishers, particularly American skier Paula Moltzan who earned her first World Cup victory in the race.
The Sölden giant slalom marks the start of the alpine skiing World Cup season, bringing together the world’s top technical specialists for one of the first major tests of the winter.
