Arapahoe Basin has resumed snowmaking operations as colder weather returns to Colorado, but we still don’t know when the 2026-2027 ski season will begin.
The A-Basin snowmaking crew fired up their snow guns around 5 a.m. on Monday, October 26th, and has been running them through the morning. Warmer temperatures last week forced a pause in snowmaking, but the forecast is looking colder and more favorable for continued snow production over the coming weekend.
The Colorado ski area has not committed to a specific opening date, maintaining its official target of opening as soon as conditions allow.
Fresh Snow Helps, But Snowmaking Is Key
A-Basin received approximately three inches of natural snowfall this weekend as well, helping the snowmaking team and providing a nice early taste of winter around the mountain. Snowmaking remains the primary factor in preparing for an early-season opening, though.
Natural snowfall definitely helps build excitement for winter and contributes water to the mountain, but consistent snowmaking is what allows the resort to establish its initial ski terrain. The return of colder temperatures will provide a valuable window for the snowmaking team to make progress this week.
When Will Arapahoe Basin Open?
Arapahoe Basin is one of Colorado’s most closely watched resorts during the early season. The resort’s high elevation and snowmaking capabilities often help it compete for one of the earliest openings in the state.
Those hoping to be among the first to ski in the United States this season should keep a close eye on the social media pages for Arapahoe Basin, Keystone Resort, and Loveland Ski Area, as those three tend to compete for the title of first open ski area in the country.
