The K-1 Gondola during the summer.

Killington, Vermont — Change is happening quickly at Killington Resort. Since new ownership bought Killington & Pico in 2024, the upgrades have included two new chairlifts, over 1,000 new snowguns, new gondola cabins and a barn for Skyeship, two new surface lifts at Pico, and much more. We now know what one of the big projects will be during the 2027 offseason, and it will involve Killington’s signature gondola.

Yesterday, Killington Resort announced that K-1 will be closed during a good portion (if not all) of the summer of 2027. The control system will be replaced in order to further modernize the lift. This computerized system allows the lift to run safely. Also planned is a new fiber-optic cable and strengthening of some tower footings. The gondola typically operates during the summer for scenic rides and mountain bikers.

The other big project going on next offseason will be growing Jerk Jamaican Mountain Grill at the Needles Eye base. Currently, it’s a relatively small restaurant. The plan is to greatly expand it and open it during the 2027-28 season. Other additions for the 2027-28 season haven’t been announced yet, but I imagine the new ownership group has some tricks up their sleeve.
