Mountain bikers stalked by mountain lion in Orange County, California

Wild footage out of Orange County, California where a pair of mountain bikers encountered a mountain lion while out for a ride trails in Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park on Sunday afternoon. This is the same area where a mountain lion killed a biker back in 2004.

The mountain bikers, who wish to remain anonymous, spotted the mountain lion hiding in bushes and had their phones in hand to capture video as the animal came down the mountain and began stalking them from a close distance on the trail. The bikers slowly retreated while maintaining eye contact with the mountain lion. The mountain lion continued its slow pursuit as they bikers yelled at it and said an audible prayer.

Bicyclists come face-to-face with mountain lion in frightening trail encounter

The mountain lion made a final charge at the terrified mountain bikers before running off the trail and down the mountain. The mountain bikers escaped the encounter which lasted several minutes unharmed. By the looks of the spots on its coat, the mountain lion appears to be a juvenile. The was a second report of a mountain lion encounter in the area and rangers have been alerted.
