60 inches of snow at Valle Nevado.

Throughout the sweltering summer months, those with the strong craving to shred some snow often head to the Southern Hemisphere. New Zealand, Australia, Argentina, Chile, and more all offer serious slopes often covered in plentiful snow throughout their winter. Jackson Hole local and professional skier Owen Leeper booked a last minute trip down to Chile a few weeks ago, hoping to catch a massive storm at Valle Nevado. He was able to do just that, taking advantage of around 60 inches of new snowfall that came through in just a few days.

As the snow came in and shut down the roads, Valle Nevado was left with just the hotel guests on the mountain, making for top-notch “country club” conditions. The week of that storm brought over 5 feet of snow, with around 64.2 inches falling in a 7-day period. Around 162 inches of snow, or 413 cm, have fallen at the Chilean resort throughout the 2025 season. Valle Nevado hasn’t set an official closing date yet, but it’s likely that their season will extend at least into October.

Booked a last minute trip down to Valle Nevado in Chile and ended up getting stuck at the resort with over 60″ of new snow in 3 days! The road was closed and only hotel guests were at the mountain, it was insane!” – Owen Leeper
