Mount Washington Celebrates The 91st Anniversary of World Record Wind Gust

On this April 12th, 1934, a world record wind gust of 231mph was recorded on the summit of Mount Washington by Observers Wendell Stephenson, Alexander McKenzie and Salvatore Pagliuca, just two years after the Observatory’s founding.

To commemorate 91st anniversary of the day, watch this film which tells the story of “Big Wind Day” in the words of Salvatore Pagliuca and Alexander McKenzie. Accompanied by archival photographs and images from the crew’s logbook, the experience is an immersive and educational step back in time.
