Ohio’s Perfect North Slopes ski area, located just around 30 minutes from Cincinnati, turned on their snowmaking guns yesterday, putting the new system from Latitude90 & SMI Snowmakers to the test despite the warmer temperatures.
Unlike traditional snowmaking systems which usually require a wet bulb temperature (considers both air temperature & humidity) of 28°F or below, the Latitude90 system functions in almost all weather. It’s the same system that Ski Ward used to become the first lift-served ski area to open in North America earlier this October.
“Waiting on cold temps? Not anymore. All-weather snowmaking can kickstart your season, producing snow in temperatures above traditional snowmaking equipment. With three models to choose from, the L30, L60, and L120 are enclosed, independent snowmaking systems that withstand ambient temperatures, winds, and humidity and perfectly complement your traditional snow guns.” – Latitude90 Systems
Yesterday’s snowmaking at Perfect North was nothing more than a test of the system. The Ohio ski area’s opening date is still to be determined, but when they do open they should be able to have plenty of snow. During ski season, Perfect North is open from 9:30am to 9:30pm Sunday-Thursday, and 9:30am to 12:00am on Fridays and Saturdays.
