Sundance Liquor & Gifts, located in Snowmass Village Colorado, sold the winning ticket to the Colorado Lotto+ lottery worth $5,727,684 (cash option $2,061,966). The Aspen Times reports after reviewing the security camera footage of the ticket sale, the shop owners believe a local is the lucky winner.
While this may seem like an intrusion of anonymity to announce that a local won the big prize, Colorado Lottery winners’ first names and last initials are released as part of claiming their money so it wont be that big of a secret when the winner decides to step up:
“As part of the Colorado Open Records Act, we are required to release to the public your first name and last initial, hometown, amount you won and the game you played. This information will be posted on coloradolottery.com and will be provided to the media upon request. Having your photo taken is optional.”
The Colorado Lottery is still waiting for someone to claim the multimillion-dollar winning ticket but winners have 180 days after the drawing to make their claim the ticket. If the ticket goes unclaimed, the funds go towards a beneficiary fund that is distributed between Great Outdoors Colorado, The Conservation Trust fund and Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Something tells me the winner is just getting the ducks in a row and biding their time but if you recently purchased a lottery ticket at Sundance Liquor & Gifts, check the numbers because you might be in for a windfall.
In an incredible coincidence, the winning ticket was sold on Sundance Liquor & Gifts 45th anniversary of opening. What are the odds?
