Sad news is coming out of the Alps as thelocal.fr is reporting that an American skier is dead after falling hundreds of meters down a slope in close proximity to the Aiguille du Midi.
The accident occurred during a ski outing in the Mont Blanc massif and according to an initial investigation by specialist mountain police, the 37 year old skier made a “technical error” that resulted in his fall and instant death. It’s unclear where exactly the accident happened but the areas surrounding the Cosmique Arete and Couloir are known for being extremely exposed and steep. The skier’s friends alerted local authorities to the incident and French police are still investigating.
