Ski trips can mean very different things to different people. For some skiers, the perfect trip is built around deep powder and a long list of resorts. For others, it is about skiing somewhere new, traveling with friends or simply experiencing one unforgettable day on the mountain.
We recently asked our Unofficial Networks Facebook followers what the best ski trip they have ever taken was. The responses produced plenty of memorable destinations and some remarkable ski adventures.
Powder Highway Trips Stand Out
Western Canada appeared repeatedly in the responses, with the Powder Highway earning plenty of praise.
One skier described a three-week journey that included 10 resorts, nearly as many hot springs and stops at Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee, Big Sky, Revelstoke, Kicking Horse and other destinations. Another skier simply called the Powder Highway their best trip after making the journey three times.
Another memorable trip followed storms across a long route that included Alta, Snowbird, Solitude, Whitewater, Fernie, Kicking Horse, Rogers Pass and Red Mountain. The skier said it barely stopped snowing throughout the journey.
Europe Delivered Big Adventures
Europe also featured prominently. One skier highlighted 15 days of skiing in Austria’s Arlberg region, including Lech, Zürs and St. Anton. Another described a global ski journey that included New Zealand, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Italy before finishing at Arapahoe Basin in Colorado.
Val d’Isère also produced a memorable adventure for one skier who traveled there after an overnight train ride from Paris. A surprise storm reportedly dropped nearly four feet of snow during the journey.
Some Trips Were About One Perfect Day
Not every memorable ski trip involved weeks on the road. One skier recalled a day at York Mountain in Quebec after a 40-centimeter storm. The result was eight runs through untracked powder and steep open glades.
Another remembered skiing Winter Park’s Drunken Frenchman trail with 18 inches of fresh snow. It was also the first time that skier had experienced powder. Jackson Hole, Alta, Snowbird, Whistler Blackcomb, Mammoth, Killington, White Pass and Mount Baker also appeared in the responses.
The stories varied considerably, but many shared the same ingredients. Fresh snow, good friends, memorable destinations and the freedom to spend several days chasing the best skiing possible made these trips unforgettable.
