Chile — Compared to the Northern Hemisphere, ski resorts in the Southern Hemisphere tend to have a shorter season. In Chile, the season typically runs from late June to near the end of September. However, this season has been snow-filled, leading ski resorts to extend their seasons. This has included La Parva, Portillo, and Valle Nevado. Another mountain joined this list late last week.
Last Friday, El Colorado announced that it has extended their ski season. Originally planning to close for the season on September 27th, the season will now end on October 12th. This has been helped by 285 inches of snow received so far this winter (according to OpenSnow).
So if you think that there’s no more chance to ski in Chile, you’re wrong. Various deals from Chilean ski resorts prove that there’s still a way to get your turns in before we see the snow return to North America.
About El Colorado
Situated relatively outside Chile’s largest city, El Colorado is the first ski resort you drive by on your trip to the Tres Valles. According to Powder Quest, El Colorado features 110 trails, 14 lifts, and a vertical drop of 3,576 feet. It’s connected to a smaller ski resort, Farellones, which is a beginner-oriented area.
Mountain Capital Partners planned to acquire El Colorado, but the Chilean government blocked the deal earlier this summer. Mountain Capital Partners owns the other two ski resorts in Tres Valles, La Parva and Valle Nevado.
