Summer is almost over, and while most Colorado ski resorts have fully committed to mountain biking, hiking, frisbee golf, or other warm weather activities, Copper Mountain is still offering on snow skiing and snowboarding. The resort is preparing to host its second Jib Jam of the summer this Friday, August 28th, giving skiers and snowboarders another chance to get back on snow during the annual Union Peak Festival. The event is scheduled for the Summer Hike Park in Center Village from noon to 2pm.
Copper Mountain Summer Skiing Returns
Jib Jam #2 presented by YETI is designed as a casual summer session rather than a traditional competition. There will be no bibs and no judges, with the emphasis instead placed on skiing, snowboarding, and having a good time.
Participants can bring their best tricks to the Summer Hike Park while a live DJ provides music throughout the afternoon. Giveaways are also planned from YETI, Skullcandy, Burton, Woodward and other participating companies. Entry is free for anyone with a Summer Hike Park day ticket or season pass. No registration or pre-registration is required.
The event remains dependent on conditions, so weather and snow conditions could affect whether the Jib Jam takes place as scheduled.
Union Peak Festival Brings Summer Action
The Jib Jam is part of Copper Mountain’s sixth annual Union Peak Festival, which runs from August 28th through August 30th. The three day celebration combines mountain sports, music, art and community events.
The festival’s music lineup includes The Revivalists, Turnpike Troubadours, Magic City Hippies and The Sheepdogs. Additional performances are scheduled throughout the weekend, along with mountain activities and special events.
The Revivalists are scheduled to headline Friday night at 7pm, with Magic City Hippies performing earlier that afternoon. Turnpike Troubadours will headline Saturday evening at 6pm while The Sheepdogs are scheduled to perform at 4pm.
A Weekend Built Around Mountain Sports
Skiing and snowboarding are only part of the Union Peak Festival. Copper Mountain will also host the Summit UP Run on Saturday morning, giving participants the opportunity to ride the American Eagle lift before taking on an on mountain 5K.
A mountain bike meetup is also planned for Saturday at noon, and the first 50 participants will receive free bike haul service for the day. Sunday morning will feature Union Peak Yoga and Breakfast, with guided yoga, live music and breakfast served from the Aerie deck overlooking the Ten Mile Range.
