Tahoe — The 2022-23 season was probably the best in Tahoe’s history. Frequent snowfall led to many powder days and late seasons at mountains like Heavenly and Palisades Tahoe. After an up-and-down winter during the last go-around, one of the most legendary Tahoe skiers is trying to bring some energy in from a historic snow season.
Yesterday, Scott Gaffney shared a video capturing his best shots of the snow piles from the 2022-23 season. The Gaffney family is well known in the Tahoe area, as Robb Gaffney wrote Squallywood, Scott’s a longtime filmmaker, and Noah is making a name for himself with his rowdy sends.
The longtime MSP filmmaker captured footage throughout the winter in his neighborhood, showing snow reaching levels unforeseen before or after that winter. There are also some picturesque shots of Lake Tahoe as the storms rolled through. One thing is for sure about that year: roof repair companies definitely made a lot of money.
With El Niño in the forecast, it’s unclear whether Tahoe will be shaping up for a good, average, or bad season. While not as definitive as the Southwest, El Niño typically brings slightly above-average precipitation to the region.
