Snowboarding legend Shaun White dropped in on summer snowboard camp session at Wy’East Mountain Academy (pun intended) and hit their airbag jump under full summer sun at Mt. Hood, Oregon.
Formerly called Windells Academy,The Wy’East Mountain Academy is a college preparatory action sports boarding school focused on academics, skateboarding, mountain biking, snowboarding, and freeskiing athletic programs. They run summer camps for skiers and snowboarders in June and July where kids can hone skills on their world class trampolines, skatepark and dryslopes.
Wy’East’s 80-foot-wide, 200-foot-long dry slope and airbag system (North America’s largest) is a definitely a highlight of their 28-acre campus and campers all had their cameras out when the Flying Tomato stood under the canopy at the top collecting fist bumps before sending it.
White nailed a high flying invert and laughed it off as he slipped out on the landing. Interestingly he chose to go with a full winter kit of his signature clothing brand WHITESPACE rather than shorts and compression pants which are common for kids hitting the airbag during the summer months. Likely he had a photographer snapping away and we might see pictures of his high flying summer activities in future WHITESPACE promotional materials.
Pretty cool feature of the airbag jump, it has a putting green just to the side so you can sink putts after throwing tricks.
