California — Yosemite National Park is often compared to an amusement park due to the crowding it experiences. While this label is a bit harsh, it does have one attraction that does resemble what you’d see at one.

At an undisclosed location in Yosemite, there’s a rock feature where water races down it for part of the year. Situated in Tenaya Canyon, the slides are off-trail, making them hard to find. It’s also only really doable for a few weeks each year, typically in the early summer months. How do you get there? I’ll leave that to you to figure out yourself.

Last week, YouTuber LiveHardxLoveHard detailed the journey to get there and what it’s like to slide down. Not a bad way to spend July 4th.

If you do go, there are various items you’ll want to bring. Those include sturdy shoes for the climb down, water-specific shoes for when you’re sliding, and bug spray. It should be noted that there’s no cell phone service in this neck of the woods. Reminder: because it is off-trail and challenging, it should only be attempted by the most knowledgeable hikers. Knowing somebody who knows somebody is probably your best option.

It should be noted that Yosemite National Park has been more crowded this summer than in prior years due to the elimination of the reservation system. If you go, do your research and arrive early or late (though the latter carries its own risks).
