Wildfire smoke has forced the postponement of a mountain bike race in Eagle, Colorado, with air quality readings pushing into the unhealthy range ahead of this past Wednesday’s planned event.
The Vail Recreation District announced it has postponed the Eagle Enduro and Boneyard Brawl Mountain Bike Race, originally scheduled for June 24th, due to dangerous air quality conditions. The race has been rescheduled for Wednesday, July 1st, at the same time and location.
Air Quality Index (AQI) levels in Eagle were above 150 at the time of the decision, placing the area firmly in the red category. Health officials and outdoor recreation organizations widely recommend avoiding strenuous exercise when AQI exceeds 150, as physical exertion can amplify the negative health effects of smoke inhalation.
The Vail Recreation District said racer safety drove the decision to push the event back one week. Registered participants who cannot make the new date can contact VRD Sports at sports@vailrec.com or 970-479-2280 to request a race transfer or refund.
