Glacier National Park‘s Going-to-the-Sun Road is expected to open to motorized vehicles on Monday, June 22nd, marking the start of the 2026 summer season. Park officials note that rockfalls or other natural events could delay the opening, as conditions along the high alpine corridor can change quickly.

In the days leading up to the vehicle opening, bicyclists have a window to ride the full length of the road. That window runs from June 18th through June 21st. Riders should be aware of administrative traffic beyond the vehicle closure zone, particularly on Thursday and Friday, June 18th and 19th.

The National Park Service has issued the following safety reminders for cyclists on the road:

  • Always wear a helmet
  • Maintain safe speed and control at all times
  • Bicyclists must follow the same rules as motor vehicles
  • Bring a headlamp for early morning or evening rides
  • Never leave food unattended
  • Mount and dismount e-bikes carefully, as battery weight adds more than 20 pounds
  • Only Class 1 pedal-assist e-bikes rated at 750 watts or less are permitted
  • Carry bear spray and know how to use it
  • Check tire pressure before heading out and bring tools for repairs

Visitors should park only in designated spaces throughout the park. The Logan Pass Visitor Center will not have visitor information services or the Glacier National Park Conservancy bookstore available until June 22nd, though restrooms will be open. Bicyclists hoping to ride the road before that date should plan accordingly.
