A trio of BASE jumpers was recently caught on video leaping from the top of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park at sunset, with park rangers pursuing them on foot immediately after landing. The footage, captured by Instagram user @liv_out_there, shows the jumpers sticking their landings before apparently disappearing into the treeline to avoid rangers.

BASE jumping has been illegal in all national parks since the mid-1980s, prohibited under federal regulation 36 CFR 2.17(a)(3). In October of 2025, the National Park Service announced three separate convictions stemming from illegal jumps in Yosemite.

Christopher Durell pleaded guilty after rangers found him near Mirror Lake following a jump from the Porcelain Wall and was sentenced to 18 months of unsupervised probation, $600 in fines, and 40 hours of community service, with his BASE canopy and wingsuit forfeited.

Joshua Iosue, who fled on foot after jumping near North Dome, received 2 days in jail, 24 months of probation, $2,510 in fines, and a ban from entering Yosemite during his probation. David Nunn, who had a prior BASE jumping conviction from 1998, jumped from El Capitan in 2020, suffered a severe equipment malfunction, and required an NPS rescue. He was sentenced to 2 days in jail, 12 months of probation, $760 in fines, and $458.77 in rescue restitution.

The jumpers in the video have not been publicly identified.
