Ludlow, Vermont— Thanks to the decades of ownership by the Mueller family, Okemo Mountain Resort was in good shape with its snowmaking infrastructure when it was bought by Vail Resorts in 2018. However, they’ve seen shorter snowmaking windows due to climate change, resulting in major changes this offseason.
This week, Okemo Mountain Resort detailed the snowmaking upgrades for the 2026-27 season. The new Summit Valve House will power their snowmaking prowess with the precision needed for the tough New England winter. The other planned projects include an upgraded mid-mountain pump station, replacing diesel compressors with electric ones, and upgrading 700 low-energy snowguns with new guns or new nozzles. This will lead to a less energy-intensive but more efficient snowmaking operation.
The project is being done by Summit Resources, which helps with major snowmaking projects in the region, including Black (NH), Loon, Tenney, and Saddleback.
Summer activities will begin on June 20th. Some of the activities include the auto road, mountain biking trails, hiking trails, a mountain coaster, and mini golf. Soon enough, it’ll be Okemo’s time again for skiing and riding.
