Unfortunately cycling comes with a lot of unnecessary dangers, especially originating from reckless and careless drivers. Most cyclists have come to expect these dangers, taking steps like taking the entire lane to avoid close passes and using bright lights to make their presence clear. However some dangers are a lot more unexpected.
These mountain bikers were riding along the road when a deer showed up out of nowhere and took out both riders. Why the deer decided to cross the road right then and there is a mystery, but alas it did. Fortunately Graeme Wolter was wearing a pair of Oakley Meta Glasses and managed to capture the entire incident on camera.
While it’s unclear why the deer crossed, this video is a great reminder to the unexpected dangers that lurk alongside roads, both for cyclists and for drivers. In heavily wooded areas, animals can pop up out of nowhere, so it’s very important that travelers are alert and are ready to stop whenever necessary. As for these guys, it doesn’t seem like there’s a lot they could have done to avoid this situation, especially given how quick it all hapenned.
