While much of the western United States experienced a pretty crummy ski season, the conditions seemed to be quite a bit better with our neighbors to the north. Several Western Canadian ski resorts had record breaking ski seasons, and 2 major resorts are still open to skiers and snowboarders for at least a few more weeks. Together, those two resorts have 181 open trails. Not bad for May!
Banff Sunshine Village – Closing May 18th
Banff Sunshine Village is open for the 2025/2026 ski season until May 18th, but it won’t stay closed for all that long. With a year of record-breaking snowfall, they’ve decided to reopen for some summer skiing and snowboarding come June. The Strawberry Express chairlift is set to operate from June 20th through July 5th, potentially setting Banff Sunshine Village up to be the last open ski resort in North America.
Whistler Blackcomb – Closing May 18th
Whistler Blackcomb officially wrapped up operations on Whistler back on April 19th, but they intend to keep the Blackcomb party going until May 18th. 6 chairlifts are currently open to skiers and snowboarders, providing access to 65 open trails. On top of that, the mountain still has a base depth of nearly 72 inches after a season snowfall total of 316 inches, so there should be plenty of quality skiing and snowboarding left in these final few weeks.
