Tragic news out of New Hampshire where a 61-year-old hiker from West Roxbury, Massachusetts was found dead on a remote section of the Kinsman Pond Trail in Lincoln Tuesday evening.

According to New Hampshire Fish and Game, 61-year-old Kent Wood drove to the Lafayette Campground in Lincoln on Friday, April 16th, to camp and hike for the weekend. He started hiking in warm temperatures and clear skiers on Saturday morning, with last contact with friends or family being on Saturday afternoon.

After several days of not hearing from Wood, his family called to notify New Hampshire Fish and Game on Tuesday, April 21st. The agency learned that Wood was prepped for warm conditions, and not the 3-5 inches of snow that fell in the Franconia Notch area between Sunday and Monday.

Search teams from New Hampshire Fish and Game, PEMI Valley Search and Rescue, and the Army National Guard Helicopter Team were deployed to search in and around the Lonesome Lake and Kinsman Pond area Tuesday morning. At 7:41pm, Conservation Officers located the deceased individual about 5.5 miles from his vehicle. Crews carried him out to the trailhead, arriving at 1:10am on Wednesday, April 22nd.

Our deepest thoughts and condolences are with the friends and family of Kent Wood at this time.
