About Cape Smokey
Located in Nova Scotia, Cape Smokey has had a surprisingly tumultuous history. It opened in the 1970s and became a popular destination in Nova Scotia. However, its remote location and events like a 1979 lodge fire and a 1986 brush fire hurt its momentum. In the 2000s, the ski area experienced closures while undergoing ownership changes. The acquisition of the ski resort in 2019 officially began its revival.
In 2021, Cape Smokey opened up its gondola, strengthening its position as a four-season destination. The 2022-23 season saw the reintroduction of various run plus the installation of a modern snowmaking system. 2025 saw the opening of 27 oceanfront villas, with more chalets to come.
