Washington State — The National Park Service has awarded the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers a construction contract to rebuild access along Company Creek Road following major flood damage to North Cascades National Park Service Complex in December 2025. Work began this week on an elevated interim road across federal land, replacing the temporary corduroy route that has been used to access the upper Company Creek area. Construction is expected to take several weeks.

The interim road will span roughly 1,000 to 1,100 feet, though a small portion of the route crosses land outside federal jurisdiction due to shifts in the river’s path. That creates a gap between the new elevated section and the remaining roadway, and officials say they are continuing to coordinate with Chelan County and local property owners to address connections beyond the damaged area.

The new alignment was selected to allow for quick construction ahead of spring runoff while improving resilience to future flooding and limiting impacts to surrounding natural and cultural resources. However, the project is a temporary solution. The Park Service says it is working on longer-term plans for sustainable access in the Stehekin Valley, as the river’s shift into its historic floodplain has made rebuilding the road in its original location no longer feasible
