Cody, Wyoming The new prospective owner of Sleeping Giant has stood up. However, skiing may not be part of the mountain’s future.

The Cody Enterprise reports that the prospective new buyer of Sleeping Giant is Brent Hargrave of HMH Capital Group. The Dallas-based man wants to create a summer-focused business that includes attractions that add to the existing zipline.

They run similar outdoor and entertainment-themed businesses in Colorado, New Mexico, and Washington, D.C. The most similar business they own is probably the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park in southern Colorado. Also of note: they own the Museum of the Bible in D.C.

The soon-to-be owner plans on focusing on activities in the warmer months. During the prior ownership, they ran a zipline operation that made decent money. With its proximity to the East entrance of Yellowstone National Park, its biggest revenue potential is in the summertime. For reference, this entrance is closed to most traffic during the winter. The goal is to reopen Sleepy G. in the summer of 2027.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that skiing is a priority. For skiers, the prospects of shredding there in the future appear dim. Here’s what Brent Hargarve told the Cody Enterprise about bringing skiing back:

“This might not necessarily work as a ski area, but I’m not ruling it out. Skiing is still an option. We’re looking more for summertime use…

It’d be hard to make it work as a ski area.”

If they move forward without lift-served skiing, it would be a tough loss for the small city of Cody. This ski area is about an hour from the small citiesdowntown. The closest ski areas would then be Red Lodge Mountain (around an hour and fifteen minutes away) and Antelope Butte (which is around ninety minutes’ drive away).

If you want skiing to be part of Sleeping Giant’s future, you should attend the February 11th meeting. The prospective owners plan to meet with the community at Cody’s Wyoming Game and Fish office at 6 p.m. on Wednesday to discuss their master development plan.
