A 22-year-old female skier is safe at home after crews from Rich County Search and Rescue, Cache County Search and Rescue, The Utah Department of Natural Resources and Utah Department of Public Safety worked overnight to locate her in a remote backcountry location.

The Rich County Sheriff’s Office reports they received a 911 emergency call from the female skier at approximately 4:35pm on Sunday, December 7th. She reported she had been skiing with a 20-year-old male and became separated after falling into some trees and sliding into a ravine. The female skier said she had been in the ravine area since approximately 1:00 pm and had lost contact with the male skier.

Rich County Search and Rescue responded to scene with a ground crew, snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles and a drone crew. The male skier was located at 6:58 pm. The female skier was located in difficult terrain and rescuers made visual contact with her via a drone. A Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter was called in to airlift her but weather prevented it from initially assisting. Ground crews attempted to reach the female via snowmobile and snowshoe.

On Monday, December 8th at approximately 4:15am the female victim airlifted from the scene by a Utah DPS helicopter. She was evaluated at the scene, determined to be uninjured and was able to go home. Hats off to all the various departments who worked throughout the night to reach her location. We salute you.
