Saint-Sauveur, Quebec โ€” While New England’s ski season is off to a slow start, its neighbors north of the border are now skiing.

After beginning to make snow last week, the ski season began on Sunday at Sommet Saint-Sauveur. They made quick work of Piste 70 and opened it yesterday. This trail is serviced by the L’ร‰toile chairlift. Skiers and riders were even treated to some fresh natural snow, especially during the evening.

What makes Sommet unique is its night skiing, which is even available during the fall and spring.

Perhaps the most notable addition of the 2025-26 season is the addition of a new trail to the night skiing network. Piste 72 now has lights on it, providing guests with more terrain to explore in the evening. The ski resort is now home to 30 night skiing trails. That’s lit.

In terms of North American ski operations, Sommet Saint-Sauveur tends to go under the radar, despite being one of the first to open on the continent. However, those in the Montreal area can be assured that they have a reliable skiing option from the fall into the late spring.

Northeast Ski Operations

Before Sommet’s opening, the only ski area that had operated in the region was Ski Ward. This included a weekend in October, along with a small opening to the public last Saturday. Primarily, though, their operations have been focused on ski lessons.

However, snow at higher elevations in the Northeast has allowed backcountry skiers to earn their turns. Killington is set to open this Wednesday, and other ski resorts, such as Bretton Woods and Sunday River, are likely not far behind.
