Keystone, Colorado — Being among the first to open in North America for skiing is challenging to pull off. Thanks to its high-tech snowmaking system, experienced crew, and high-elevation, Keystone Resort is frequently among the first to open in North America. But how does this system work?
In a video released this week by Keystone Resort, Snowmaking Manager Dave Mansavage discusses the intricacies of making snow. He discusses the snowmaking system and what it takes to open the mountain.
While Arapahoe Basin has fewer snowmaking staff members, it has a shorter slope to cover, which usually leads to a quicker opening. We’ll see if that’s the case this year as well, but it seems we’ll know when these two open soon.
What’s New
The main addition at Keystone Resort this season is the grand opening of the Kindred Resort.
The development includes a hotel with 107 rooms and 95 condos (33 of which are a part of a future phase). The amenities at the Kindred will consist of an outdoor pool, two large outdoor hot tubs, a fitness center, ski valet, valet parking, large spaces for conventions and weddings, and a kids’ club. It will feature three restaurants (including a sushi place) and a bar right next to the hotel lobby. Two of the restaurants are being run by the group behind Sauce on the Blue. Kindred will also be home to Keystone’s Ski & Ride School, along with ski rental and retail shops. The plan is to open it during the 2025-26 ski season.
