Henryville, Pennsylvania — While Pennsylvania has a vibrant ski industry, surviving is tricky due to the constant freeze-thaw cycles. Warming winters caused various mountains to melt down financially, including Alpine Mountain in the mid-2010s.

In a video by Avery Zucco, he explores what remains of Alpine Mountain in Henryville, Pennsylvania. The video shows that the lifts have stayed in place, but are slowly rotting away. The trails have partially grown in, but still were in decent shape.

Lost Ski Areas: Alpine Mountain (Timber Hill), 1965-2015 : Henryville, PA

History of Alpine Mountain

Opened back in 1965, the ski area was originally known as Timber Hill. The ski area featured 21 trails, 3 lifts, a vertical drop of 550 feet, and night skiing. There was also an area for snow tubing.

The ski area last operated in 2015. In 2016, the owners filed for bankruptcy due to an unpaid electricity bill. In 2017, the ski resort was bought, with the intention of making the lodge into a bike-themed restaurant and event space. The new owners wanted to make it a destination resort, but with no skiing. Those plans didn’t come to fruition.

Based on the research I’ve done, the ski resort remains abandoned. What comes of the mountain is uncertain, but it seems likely that it won’t open for skiing and riding again.
