Nevada โ€” If you want to be the first to open in Tahoe, that usually means you have to be the first to make snow efficiently. While natural snow is a big part of Tahoe ski resorts’ ability to open terrain, snowmaking ensures a reliable base to open on. That’s why work is underway at one Tahoe ski resort to open, even though it won’t be for several weeks.

This past weekend, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe began snowmaking operations for the 2025-26 season. Not only were they the first to make snow in the Tahoe region, but Ski Tahoe was also among the first in the country to begin snowmaking operations. They even beat out Colorado ski resorts like Arapahoe Basin, Keystone, and Loveland.

It looks like the Ullr (or whatever deity you believe in that brings snow) will also be assisting the Nevada ski resort in the days ahead.

What’s New At Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe

The Nevada ski resort made $6 million in improvements this offseason. This included a new tubing park, paving the parking lots, snowmaking enhancements, and new signage.

Mt. Rose threw some shade at its competitors with this social media post.

The marquee addition will be the new snow tubing area. This zone features 20 runs, each 750 feet long, and is serviced by a dual-conveyor lift. This tubing area has also resulted in the creation of a 400-space parking lot.

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe’s projected opening date is November 8th. The goal is to open the new tubing area during Thanksgiving Weekend.
