Cheers to the folks at Aspen Snowmass who put together this spooky ski themed homage to Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 classic horror film “The Shining.” Jack was not a backcountry skier but if he was his “all work, no play” situation would have been self solving.

If you don’t have an irrational fear of hotel hallways and identical twins and want to celebrate the Halloween season in skiing’s spookiest destination, consider booking a room at the Timberline Lodge in Oregon which served as the exterior for The Overlook Hotel in the movie.

Happy Halloween!

Fun facts about The Shining (1980):

-The film is an adaptation of Stephen King’s 1977 novel The Shining, but Kubrick took significant creative liberties, leading King to famously dislike the movie.

-Jack Nicholson improvised the famous line, “Here’s Johnny!” referencing Johnny Carson’s The Tonight Show introduction, which wasn’t in the script.

-The exterior of the Overlook Hotel was inspired by the Timberline Lodge in Oregon, but the interiors were built on a soundstage in England

-Despite its iconic status, The Shining received no Academy Award nominations, though it’s now considered a horror masterpiece.
