24-year-old Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner has been tapped as a potential leading candidate to light the Olympic flame at Milano-Cortina 2026.

According to Tennis World USA, Sinner is already an official Ambassador for the Olympic Games. His position in the world of Italian sports, mixed with his existing talents on skis, make him a top candidate to light the Olympic flame.

The Italian tennis pro is currently ranked #1 in ATP standings for singles, with
Carlos Alcaraz
behind in 2nd. He lost to Alcaraz in the Cincinnati Open finals on August 18th. Earlier this summer Jannik Sinner took first place at Wimbledon, beating out Alcaraz for the prize. Currently he’s set to compete against Vít KopÅ™iva in the first round of the U.S. Open on August 24th.

Jannik’s talents have extended to skiing since he was quite young, beginning his athletic career with a focus on the downhill sport. When he was 8-years-old, Sinner won a national championship in giant slalom. At 12-years-old, he was a national runner-up. However when he was 13-years-old, Sinner moved to Bordighera to train and focus on tennis.
