Park City, Utah — While many ponder their opinion on whether Park City Mountain Resort should replace its Cabriolet, the Utah ski resort is making fast progress on another new lift.

Over the past few years, Park City Mountain Resort has been working on replacing the Sunrise chairlift with a new gondola. Sunrise was a fixed-grip triple chairlift that served a limited amount of terrain. It’s being replaced by a 6,500-foot-long gondola with ten-person cabins. Another difference is that its base terminal location is closer to the Park City Pendry hotel and Lift Park City Condominiums, while the top terminal is located at the Red Pine Lodge. The new gondola will be aligned to avoid heavy winds, resulting in shorter lines at Canyons Village.

Earlier this week, Park City passed a critical juncture on this project. Helicopter crews flew in the final lift towers, cross-arm assemblies, and sheave trains. On the ground, workers led them to their respective new homes. The new Sunrise Gondola is expected to debut during the 2025-26 season.

It’s shaping up to be a busy few years at The Canyons (I like its old name better). This week, it was announced that Park City is planning to replace the Cabriolet lift with an enclosed gondola. Also underway is a new parking garage that is going in the Cabriolet parking lot. The Canyons parking garage and Carbiolet replacement are planned to open during the 2026-27 season.
