Campfires or the ignition of wood, briquettes, or any fuel in fire pits, fire pans, and barbecue grills will be banned in all portions of North Cascades National Park Service Complex beginning on Thursday, July 3rd.

North Cascades National Park

The ban includes North Cascades National Park, Ross Lake National Recreation area, and Lake Chelan National Recreation area in addition to all National Park Service lands and campgrounds along State Route 20 as well as Hozomeen and the entire Stehekin Valley. Pressurized or bottled liquid fuel, stoves, and lanters are allowed so long as they have an on/off switch or valve that can extinguish the flame immediately.

Fire danger has seen an increase as a lack of spring rains and warmer weather have both contributed to drier fuels. The burn ban aims to reduce the chance of human-caused wildfires during the drought-like conditions with prolonged high summer temperatures.

Visitors are asked to use caution with smoking and to not discard cigarette butts. Additionally the discharge or use of any kind of fireworks, tracer ammunition or other incendiary devices in any location are always prohibited on federal lands.
